NCAA Game Summary - Ole Miss at LSU

Baton Rouge, LA (Sports Network) - Jevan Snead threw for a career-high 274 yards as Ole Miss crushed 18th-ranked LSU, 31-13, in an SEC battle at Tiger Stadium.

Snead went 16-for-25 with two touchdowns while Mike Wallace caught six balls for 119 yards and two scores for the Rebels (7-4, 4-3 SEC), who have won four straight.

Jordan Jefferson took the place of Jarrett Lee, who was injured in the second quarter, under center and went 10-for-20 with 129 yards with an interception and a touchdown for the Tigers (7-4, 3-4), who have dropped two of their last three games.

Trailing by 11 points at the beginning of the third quarter, LSU started the half with the ball and made it a 21-13 game thanks to Colt David's 52-yard field goal that just cleared the crossbar.

The Rebels, however, answered with a touchdown on the "Wild Rebel" formation as Markeith Summers took a reverse around the left side and into the end zone for a 13-yard score and a 28-13 lead with 7:53 left in the third.

In the fourth quarter, LSU recovered a Dexter McCluster fumble at the Ole Miss 40, but the team went backwards and turned the ball over on downs with a bit over eight minutes to play.

Ole Miss sealed the victory on the possession as Joshua Shene's 19-yard field goal with 4:23 to play made it a 31-13 game.

Jefferson was picked off by Allen Walker on the next possession and Ole Miss killed off the rest of the game clock.

The Rebels started the game with the ball and marched down the field to take the early lead. Facing a 3rd-and-3, Snead hit Wallace for 20 yards to get the ball past midfield. On 3rd-and-17, a blown coverage assignment resulted in Wallace being wide open over the middle and Snead hit him in stride for a 34- yard touchdown four minutes in.

On a drive that spanned first and second quarters, LSU got on the scoreboard thanks to a 46-yard field goal from David to make it a 7-3 game a bit over a minute into the second.

Ole Miss, though, responded with a three-yard touchdown run from Brandon Bolden for a 14-3 lead with 9:01 left in the second. The big play of the drive occurred when Jason Cook connected with Kendrick Lewis for 33 yards on a 4th- and-4 to set up 1st-and-goal.

The Rebels held the Tigers to a three-and-out on the ensuing possession and made it a 21-3 game in just five plays as Snead and Wallace connected for a 25-yard touchdown with 5:36 to play.

On the next drive, Lee was injured when he was hit on a pass play that went for 19 yards to Brandon LaFell, and Jefferson took over under center. On his first play, Jefferson hit LaFell for 37 yards and three plays later found Terrance Toliver in the right corner of the end zone for a nine-yard touchdown to make it a 21-10 game with just 2:13 left in the first half.

After stopping Ole Miss, LSU appeared to make it a four-point game as Trindon Holliday took the punt 71 yards into the end zone, but he was ruled to have made a fair catch signal before fielding the ball on the bounce and the score was called off. It appeared, though, that he was waving his players away from the ball so they wouldn't touch it, but the referees thought otherwise and, in addition to the score being cancelled, Holliday was assessed a five-yard delay of game penalty.

The Tigers were unable to put any more points on the board before the half was over and Ole Miss held a 21-10 lead going into the locker room.
