NCAA Game Summary - Tennessee at Vanderbilt
Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - The Tennessee Volunteers ran for 222 yards
and a score as they held off the Vanderbilt Commodores, 20-10, in SEC action
at Vanderbilt Stadium.
Lennon Creer led the Volunteers (4-7, 2-5 SEC) with 80 yards on 13 carries,
but he also lost a fumble in the decision. Montario Hardesty recorded 41 yards
and a touchdown on the ground, while B.J. Coleman was limited to just 21 yards
passing on 4-of-8 in the pocket.
The Commodores (6-5, 4-4) were led by Mackenzi Adams who converted 18-of-38
passing for 192 yards, but he was sacked three times and picked off once in
the losing effort.
Tennessee scored 20 unansweered points in the first half, beginning with an
eight-yard TD run by Hardesty at the 11:25 mark of the first quarter. Daniel
Lincoln booted a couple of field goals in the run, the first a 25-yard effort
and the second covering 24 yards with only four seconds remaining in the half.
In between Eric Berry intercepted a pass and returned it 45 yards for the
score to give the Vols a 20-0 lead on the road.
In the third frame Bryant Hahnfeldt knocked through a 31-yard field goal to
finally put Vanderbilt on the board, while Reshard Langford returned an
interception 42 yards for a touchdown later in the period, but that was the
end of the scoring for both programs in the 10-point decision.
Tennessee controlled the ball for more than 35 minutes, despite converting
just 4-of-13 on third down and producing a mere 243 yards of offense.
