NCAA Game Summary - Fresno State at San Jose State
San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - Anthony Harding scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter to lead the Fresno State Bulldogs to a 24-10 win over the San Jose State Spartans in Western Athletic Conference action at Spartan Stadium.
Harding finished the night with a game-high 99 yards rushing for the Bulldogs (7-4, 4-3 WAC) as they made their case for postseason consideration. Tom Brandstater had some trouble in the pocket, hitting only 5-of-18 passing for 71 yards, was sacked twice and intercepted once as he struggled to find a rhythm.
The Spartans (6-6, 4-4) were led by Sean Flynn who converted 20-of-36 for 170 yards, but he was sacked four times, which meant the team was held to minus- five yards rushing in their final game of the season.
David Richmond scored the first points of the game at the 10:02 mark of the opening quarter as he reeled in a 35-yard pass from Brandon Rutley to give the home team a 7-0 lead.
FSU, which had just 29 yards of offense in the first half, countered with a 44-yard field goal by Kevin Goessling later in the frame to make the score 7-3.
Moments into the second period it was Jared Strubeck who knocked through a 33- yard field goal for SJSU, after missing a longer effort earlier in the evening, which provided the Spartans with a 10-3 edge at the break.
San Jose State's offense disappeared in the second half as the Bulldogs scored 21 unanswered, beginning with a Chastin West punt return of 49 yards for a touchdown at the 5:27 mark of the third quarter.
Harding capped an 11-play, 69-yard drive barely three minutes into the fourth when he made his way into the end zone on an eight-yard run, following that with a 21-yard scamper later in the period to solidify the 14-point triumph.
FSU ended up with 242 yards of total offense, compared to 200 yards for the home team, even though the Bulldogs converted a mere 3-of-12 on third down.
