NCAA Game Summary - Buffalo at Bowling Green

Bowling Green, OH (Sports Network) - A 25-yard touchdown run by James Starks in the second overtime period proved to be the difference as the Buffalo Bulls survived a 40-34 contest against Bowling Green in Mid-American Conference action at Doyt Perry Stadium.

Starks finished the night with a team-best 62 yards and a pair of scores on the ground for the Bulls (7-4, 5-2 MAC) as they locked up their first ever MAC East Division title. Also having a strong game for the visitors was Drew Willy who converted 29-of-41 passing for 297 yards and three touchdowns.

The Falcons (5-6, 3-4) were paced by Tyler Sheehan who ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns as well as passed for 240 yards and a score in the setback.

Following a scoreless first quarter BGSU moved out to a 14-0 advantage with touchdown runs of five and three yards by Sheehan, which is where the teams stood at the break.

In the third quarter the Falcons lead moved to 21-0 on the strength of a three-yard scoring run by Anthony Turner.

Buffalo finally got on the board with 6:04 remaining in the third as Willy hit the end zone on a one-yard run, cutting the deficit to 21-7.

Opening up the fourth frame Turner again scored for Bowling Green, this time on a two-yard run, but a failed PAT left the score at 27-7.

The Bulls closed out regulation on a 20-0 run, beginning with a 12-yard scoring run by Starks. But like the Falcons, Buffalo also failed on the PAT, leaving the score 27-13 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the fourth.

Touchdown passes of four and five yards from Willy to Brett Hamlin and Naam Roosevelt, respectively, completed the comeback and locked the teams at 27-27 with under a minute remaining in regulation.

In the first overtime period Willy's 26-yard TD strike to Hamlin put the visitors ahead by seven, but BGSU responded on its possession with a 23-yard touchdown pass from Sheehan to Corey Partridge to make the score 34-34 and set Starks up for the game-winner after the Falcons failed to score on their share on downs.

Buffalo has gone to overtime in four of the last six games, including a four- overtime event last week versus Akron which ended in a 43-40 triumph for the Bulls.
